Whygo2 the Algarve
Letsgo2 employees have travelled extensively to the destinations we feature. Here are the five main reasons they would consider a visit to the Algarve.
Weather
The climate in the Algarve is what makes this great holiday destination such a draw with the summer months dry and clear and it rarely gets too hot as cooling breezes off the Atlantic take the edge off the heat. The warm sunshine extends long into autumn. Winters are moderately cold and this is the time of year when you can get rain. Overall the weather is pleasantly mild and just right no matter what time of year you plan to go.
Beaches
Ask anyone who has been to the Algarve what they loved most and the answer is always "the beaches". Miles of beautiful sandy beaches are often sheltered by small cliffs such as those in Vilamoura and where you can sun yourself in pretty little coves and take a refreshing dip in the warm Atlantic Ocean. Surfers love the beaches close to Lagos and you never have to go far to find a rustic taverna where you can have a long lunch and, maybe, a glass of wine overlooking the sparkling sea. Near to Albufeira at Praia da Gale, the beaches are popular with windsurfers and watersports are freely available just about everywhere during the summer months. Water quality is tested daily and notices are posted on all beaches giving the current conditions.
Food
The food in the Algarve is another reason that this area has grown so fast in the last few years with freshly caught fish and seafood always featuring on the menu. The Portuguese are rightly proud of their long tradition of culinary excellence which is complimented by some of the world best wines, like Rioja and Tempranillo which are affordable and never disappoint, and you can't finish any meal without a glass of fine Port.
Culture
With 2000 years of culture the country has a wealth of sights and traditions to enjoy with the carnival season in February to Easter processions and May Day fireworks. Close to Almancil is the Sao Lourenco Cultural Centre located below Sao Lourenco church with its famously ornate interior. Be sure and check out the many local open-air markets that operate in each town, there is always one going on somewhere close by.
People
Nothing quite makes a great holiday destination like the friendliness and hospitality of the people and in the Algarve they have made this a matter of pride. No matter where you go and what you do you will be delighted by the genuine friendliness and charm of the Portuguese people who are unfailingly cheerful and anxious to please and who will leave a lasting impression and have you returning year after year to this little piece of paradise so close to the UK.
